Sensex drops 42 points at close

The Sensex on Tuesday closed with a loss of 42 points at 5,076. The Nifty ended 16 points lower at 1,601.

Reliance dropped nearly 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 465. ITC was down marginally (Rs 2) at Rs 1,051. HLL was up a rupee at Rs 121.

SBI dropped 5.8% (Rs 27) to Rs 442. MTNL shed nearly 4% (Rs 5) to Rs 129. BHEL was down 3% (Rs 17.50) at Rs 534. ONGC shed a per cent (Rs 8.50) to Rs 701. HPCL, however, advanced 2% (Rs 6.50) to Rs 316.

Infosys gained 1.4% (Rs 20) to Rs 1,479. Satyam was down 1.4% (Rs 4.50) at Rs 323.50. Wipro ended a per cent lower at Rs 519.

Tata Power dropped nearly 5% (Rs 13) to close at Rs 255.50.
