India can capture a major share of the $1.5-billion US import market for plastic products, according to a study.
The study by Frost & Sullivan on the US market for plastics presented at a seminar on export of plastic in Chennai, organised by the Plastic Export Promotion Council, called for intensive efforts to build awareness about Indian plastic products in US.
The study recommended that it was high time that Indian plastic exporters created a distribution network in US and efforts made to building and sustaining relationship with the distribution chains in US especially in discount stores.
It also called for substantial investments in design and product development in the Indian plastic industry with a view to having a competitive edge over countries like China, a leading plastic products exporter to the US.
