10 cities that face the worst traffic snarls

Two cities each from Indonesia, Mexico and Russia are among the list of 10 places facing worst traffic congestion. 

Fortunately, no Indian city is among the top 10 affected by traffic congestion.

The 2014 Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start Index analysed traffic conditions in 78 key cities and regions around the globe, including China, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.

Jakarta (Indonesia)

The world’s worst city in terms of traffic congestion is Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta finds the Castrol's Magnatec Stop-Start index.

The traffic jam in this city is so bad that an average driver goes through 33,240 stop-starts per year.

With huge railway projects in a limbo, people may have to wait for atleast a decade or more for the traffic situation to improve, says a Reuters report.
