Ford India has recalled 20,752 units of its compact SUV EcoSport, manufactured between January 2013 and September 2014, to correct ‘concerns’ regarding airbags and fuel and vapour line corrosion.
"We have initiated a Field Service Action to correct product concerns on 20,752 Ford EcoSport vehicles in India," Ford India said in a statement.
Ford India will inspect the EcoSport variants for concerns of fuel and vapour line corrosion in the long-term, it added.
The company will also check the reorienting wiring harness related to the correct deployment of side airbags in the recalled vehicles.
This is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers’ safety and satisfaction, the company said.
The company is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out free of cost, it added.
Last year, Ford had recalled 972 diesel variants of sport utility vehicle EcoSport to rectify a part in the engine starting system.
Ever since the auto industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers started voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in India in July 2012, over 700,000 vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers.
