The government will table the Patents (Amendment) Bill in the winter session of Parliament, the Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said on Monday.

"We are in the last and final phase of our compliance...We will bring the bill (Patents) in the winter session," he told reporters in New Delhi.

"I am having consultations with the Left Parties and representatives of pharmaceutical companies in this regard," Nath said.

The Group of Ministers studying the Bill would meet on October 25.

Nath said, "The World Trade Organisation agreement in this respect was signed in 1995 and we have to take credible steps to fulfill the country's obligations."

The Union Cabinet, in its meeting on August 26 this year, referred the bill to the GoM for studying the implications of some of the contentious issues in the bill.
