Aayog to present its performance review - since its existence - before the governing council
The NITI Aayog on Sunday might come up with a report card of its performance in the more than two years of its existence, along with the major challenges it faced and the impact it made on the country’s policy making.
Its governing council, before which the report card is likely to be placed, will meet on Sunday at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The meeting, to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is likely to seek the support of chief ministers for various initiatives of the Central government, such as agricultural reforms, doubling farmers’ incomes, and infrastructure development.
All chief ministers are members of the governing council.
Officials said though the agenda of the meeting was being drawn up, the broad contours of the discussion had been decided.
On the 15-year vision document and three-year strategic paper, which the Aayog plans to place before the council for approval, officials said much of those would contain directions and proposals that would help make India a front-ranking, developed country in 15 years.
It could also project the country’s per capita income in 15 years, its economic size, state of urbanisation, economic road map, etc.
The three-year strategic paper will focus on more immediate tasks and the road map that the government is expected to take in consonance with its financial requirements.
This is the first time that the governing council meeting will be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
