Indian companies including ITC and Dabur, has resumed normal operations in Nepal following withdrawal of threat against multi-national companies by the insurgent Maoists.
Joint venture companies, including Nepal Lever and Surya Nepal, have resumed operations in the Himalayan Kingdom after Maoists withdrew their threats following the government's willingness to release two activists of the rebel-linked trade union, while disclosing the whereabouts of 28 others.
"We have resumed operations at our Greenhouse facility, which had been shut for around one-month due to the threat," Dabur Nepal chief G Kashinath told PTI on Thursday.
The joint venture company, in which Dabur India holds about 80 per cent stake, had shut operations at its Greenhouse facility, near Kathmandu, where it plants saplings for medicinal and other herbal plants.
Nepal Lever, the joint venture of Hindustan Lever, has also restarted operations. The company was one of the worst affected, as its facility was bombed by the insurgents.
"Nepal Lever has commenced a few days ago after necessary repairs to its plant and equipment, and factory operations are being resumed in a phased manner," a company spokesperson said from Mumbai.
Another big joint venture company, Surya Nepal, in which ITC owns a majority stake, has also started functioning. "We have begun normal operations at the facility," an ITC spokesperson said.
