Germany largest buyer of Indian leather

May 21, 2004 15:05 IST

Germany imported $265 million of Indian leather products in 2003, emerging as the largest buyer who accounted for almost 15 per cent of India's leather exports.

"As per estimates, German market alone needs 400 million pairs of shoes annually; India sends about 10 million pairs only and that too only men's shoes. The areas of huge demand for children and ladies' shoes is yet to be tapped by Indian exports," an Indo-German Export Promotion Project release said in New Delhi, quoting director D Kebschull.

IGEP is supporting India trade Promotion Organisation and Council for Leather Exports for the ongoing Delhi International Fair 2004 expected to achieve about four-five million dollar worth business.
