Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Tata Motors Ltd have entered into a strategic alliance for initiating joint marketing activities including the setting up of Tata authorised service stations (TASS) in select IOC retail outlets.
"The other initiatives are IOC retail outlets in select TML dealerships, sale of TML auto parts at IOC retail outlets and the Tata group entity's participation in the oil major's fleet card programme," T L Jain, executive director (retail sales), IOC, told reporters in Mumbai after signing the memorandum of co-operation on Monday.
As part of the MoC, IOC and TML would jointly identify the potential locations for setting up TASS and Tata service facilities (TSFs) at the former's retail outlet network in the country. While TASS would be a full-fledged commercial vehicle service outlet, TSFs would offer minor running repairs and accident/breakdown repair facilities to truckers, he said.
In the initial phase, IOC would also roll out outlets at select TASS or dealerships, he said.
Ravi Kant, executive director of commercial vehicle business unit, TML, said the company, which has around 1,100 TASS, would also consider recommending IOC's Servo grade lubricants and greases. Discussions for co-branding of specific engine oils were also in progress, he added.
Jain said a fuel management system was also being worked out by IOC for requirements of TML for its chassis transportation with an aim to save about 40-50,000 kilolitres of fuel annually.
Kant said both the companies were also exploring the feasibility of including fuel purchases at IOC retail outlets or the fleets under AMC offered by TML.
On IOC's fleet card programme, Jain said the company was working on changing the modalities of implementing the plan, which was introduced with Sundaram Finance.
The company now would become the card issuer and target was to touch a base of 500,000, he said without divulging the current cardbase.
The new programme was expected to be in place by the end of September and Sundaram would still remain in that initiative, he added.
Last month, TML's passenger car business unit had inked an agreement with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd whereby the companies would sell co-branded oils and lubricants in the country.
Jain said IOC was also in discussions with some other passenger car companies.
