Costlier foods, electricity and manufactured products pushed up inflation to 4.47 per cent for the week ended March 27, but 2003-04 ended on a positive note with the price level being contained at 4-4.5 per cent.
The point-to-point wholesale price index inflation rose by 0.17 per cent from the previous week's level of 4.3 per cent. However, inflation averaged around 5.18 per cent for the fiscal 2003-04.
The price level was as high as 6.49 per cent during the previous year period.
WPI rose by 0.3 per cent to 180 points with all the major indices of primary, fuels and manufactured products moving up.
The index was at 172.3 points in the year-ago period.
Inflation actually stood as high as 5.91 per cent during the week ended January 31 instead of 5.80 per cent, which was only a provisional estimate.
The final WPI stood corrected at 179.1 points during the last week of January as compared to the provisional figure of 178.9 points.
