In a bid to offset a major increase in the price of aviation turbine fuel, Indian Airlines on Saturday announced an across the board 12 per cent hike in fares with effect from April 15.
Domestic ATF price has increased from Rs 27,250 per kilolitre to Rs 32,250 from April 1, an IA spokesman said.
While the promotional and other discounted schemes like advance purchase, promotional fares, positioning flight fares and point-to-point fares would be continued, "the fares for these special schemes are also being revised upwards proportionately".
However, there would be no immediate increase in the case of Indian Airlines Holiday Packages and the Bumper Super Saver Schemes, he said.
The spokesman said the fare hike would be applicable in case of all tickets issued or re-issued on or after April 15 so as to provide sufficient advance notice to all passengers and ticket issuing offices.
"Confirmed tickets issued prior to April 15 would be accepted for travel at the pre-revised fares for the ticketed itinerary within the entire validity of the ticket," he said.
The ATF cost amounts to almost half of the total cost of air travel.
Giving examples, the spokesman said the Delhi-Chennai one-way fare would now be Rs 13,210 in place of Rs 11,816, while Delhi-Mumbai fare would be Rs 8870 compared with Rs 7941 earlier.
Similarly, the Delhi-Kolkata fare would be Rs 10,095 as against Rs 9036, Kolkata-Hyderabad would be Rs 10,940 against Rs 9791, Bangalore-Mumbai would be Rs 6200 in place of Rs 5556, Chennai-Kolkata would be Rs 11,405 compared with Rs 10,206 and Chennai-Mumbai would be Rs 7160 in place of Rs 6416.
A one-way ticket between Delhi and Pune would cost Rs 10,630 against Rs 9511, Kolkata-Guwahati would be Rs 4430 in place of Rs 3976 and Delhi-Goa Rs 11,525 compared with Rs 10,311. Likewise, the fares have been increased in other sectors also.
