As part of its plans to ramp up back-end operations, Hughes Software's business process outsourcing division is planning to add about 120 people over the next three months.

Along with this, the parent company Hughes Software has also ramped up its Japan operations by converting its sales and support office there to a branch office, Arun Kumar, president and managing director, HSS, told PTI in New Delhi.

"We plan to have 200 people for the BPO division by the end of the fiscal," he said adding, in November HSS added 50 more professionals in its BPO division to take the strength to 80.

HSS has among others NEC as a major client in Japan, which currently contributes to less than 10 per cent to the revenue.

The BPO division has at present Hughes Network Systems, HSS's parent, as the only client.

The company had earlier announced an investment of $8-10 million in its BPO business over the next two-three years.

The BPO business is yet to contribute to the revenue in a big way. In the third quarter, it contributed one per cent revenue to the company.

HSS posted an over 21 per cent fall in its net profit for the third quarter ended December 31, 2002 at Rs 11.4 crore (Rs 114 million).
