Govt clears 73 FDI proposals for mining

The government has so far approved 73 foreign direct investment proposals worth Rs 4,044 crore (Rs 40.44 billion) for the mining sector.

The proposals approved by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board are related to mining, exploration, mineral processing and technical consultancy, an official release said.

The FDI proposals cleared include 13 from Australia, nine each from the United Kingdom and the United States, eight from South Africa, seven from Canada, four from Netherlands, three from Mauritius, two each from Korea, Malaysia, Norway, Singapore and Sweden.

The Department of Mines has set up a fast track committee to review and monitor mega FDI projects for the sector.
