CVC penalty: Bankers top the list

Officials of public sector banks topped the list of employees against whom the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has advised initiations of major penalty proceedings.

Twenty officials of public sector banks were among the 70 employees against whom the CVC had recommended initiation of major penalty proceedings.

The other officials include 17 from Railways, 11 from Northern Coalfields, four from Western Coalfields and two from Ministry of Home Affairs among others.

The commission also advised imposition of major penalty against 66 officers including 13 from MCD, 11 from public sector banks, nine from Railways besides several others. The CVC disposed of 468 cases during December 2009 referred to it for advice.

"On the Commission's recommendations, the competent authorities issued sanctions for prosecution against 12 officers," a statement said.

Recoveries to the tune of Rs 68.63 crore (Rs 686.3 million) were affected after the Commission conducted technical examination of certain departments.
