Cognizant bullish on India

Leading IT service provider, Cognizant Technology Solutions is looking at India as a talent pool for global market, a senior company official said on Wednesday.

With plenty of opportunity globally, it was difficult to get talented and trained people and the company was trying to garner quality people from India for its requirements, R Rajagopalan, director and vice president (finance and administration) of Cognizant told reporters in Coimbatore.

Rajagopalan, who was in Coimbatore to sign a MoU to start Software Development Centre with the Software Technolgy Parks of India, established in association with Kumaraguru College of Technology, said the company had recruited about 1000 persons during 2004.

He said that the operations in Coimbatore would be started by the middle of June with an initial investment of Rs 10 crore (Rs 100 million) and the company would recruit about 300 persons in the first phase.

Asked about choosing Coimbatore, he said that the city had good infrastructure, a rich talent pool of technical professionals and large number of technology and engineering institutions, besides, it was well connected to other cities and enjoyed lower cost of living.

Cognizant expected its exports to be in the region of Rs 10 crore to Rs 12 crore (Rs 110-120 million) in the first year of its operations, which would be doubled in the coming years, Rajagopalan said.
