This is Mercedes' 10th AMG model in India
Mercedes Benz India seems unstoppable this year. The company has been spinning off models, both upgraded and completely new, one after the other from the beginning of 2015. True to its promise of stacking up India portfolio, the German luxury auto maker boasts of yet another new offering.
Following the likes of S63 AMG, coupe version of S-Class endowed with AMG characteristics, Mercedes has now launched the coupe version of C-Class saloon which also has been bestowed with AMG qualities. Brought to India via CBU (completely built unit) kits, the coupe gets a hefty price tag of Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
The 11th model from the 15 new lined-up for 2015, this is also the 10th AMG model in the performance packed range from Mercedes Benz India. Besides subtle changes that it gets along the line of other AMG models, the new C63 gets a new nomenclature, and this sets it apart in the AMG family.
That said, the model has been named 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 S, where AMG comes in before the model name. Globally, the coupe is available in two variants, but for the Indian market Mercedes Benz has introduced the more powerful S version.
The performance oriented C63 AMG houses an engine capable of developing mounting power and torque output. This in turn pumps up fresh blood into the vehicle to yield high performance. In terms of looks, the saloon version and AMG coupe versions are largely same, however on getting a close look of both you may chalk out few differences that include a comprehensively raked rear windscreen and front.
The front features LED head lights with auto adjust function, wide air dams, large integrated indicators in the head lights and twin blade grille. Rear comes with dual tail pipes and a carbon fibre deck spoiler.
Other differences such as redesigned rear styling, frameless doors and a shorter boot deck bring out noticeable change on the outside. Rear end styling seems to be inspired from the S-Class coupe, 19-inch alloy rims are wrapped around the robust tyres that appear well in proportion with the metal mass that rests above it. And of course, the variant also gets AMG badge that pretty much defines its ability under the skin.
Besides, the company has floated an option for Designo design interiors that gives a variety of choices to pick from for sprucing up interiors. These options comprise colour choice for upholstery, dashboard trims and leather interiors. It boasts of a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with electric assistance, paddles shift, a high resolution multi-media screen, sports seats, Burmester audio system etc. Usage of carbon-fibre within the cabin is ample which makes it look plush.
Ceramic compound brakes are available as an optional equipment, besides features like adaptive brake lights, seven airbags and attention assist are offered as standard.
C63 AMG’s power house running the lavish coupe is a mighty 4.0 litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine. This is the same engine that was introduced in the Mercedes AMG GT, one of the global model of Mercedes Benz which is not available for sale in India, hence as for Indian market goes this engine makes its debut with AMG C63. The engine is efficient enough to generate staggering power output of 510 PS along with top torque of 700 Nm.
A single clutch, seven-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission will be mated to the powerful engine. Among other mechanical tweaks, the coupe gets a varied suspension tune and a reworked camber rates, besides there is an electronic locking differential that has been fitted in the coupe to further enhance the performance.
Built to offer power-packed performance, the new C63 AMG coupe does exactly what is expected of it. Talking in terms of speed, the coupe achieves top speed of 245 kmph and the 0 to 100kmph mark is hit within insignificant time of 4 seconds.
