A Delhi consumer court on Friday ordered Reliance Communications (erstwhile Reliance Infocomm) to re-activate the mobile phone connection of a user, failing which the telephone major's Chairman Anil Ambani will be 'compelled' to appear before it on August 30.
"This forum will be compelled to issue coercive process to ensure the personal attendance of the owner of the opposite party (Reliance Infocomm) Anil Ambani to answer as to why he should not be punished for not complying with the orders of this forum," District Consumer Forum (North) headed by President K K Chopra said.
It further observed that non-compliance of the order to re-activate the complainant's connection or subsequent failure of Ambani to appear in court on August 30 would result in the attachment of 'all the bank accounts' of the company.
Today's order by the forum in the case comes after the company failed to respond to two earlier directions from the forum to restore the phone connection of the complainant.
The complainant, Trilokchand, a resident of Delhi, had taken the connection under Reliance's 'Khazana' scheme. Subsequently, he learnt that he was being charged for phone calls immediately on dialling a number even before the call matured, the complainant alleged, prompting him to approach the forum.
Meanwhile, Reliance allegedly disconnected his connection during the pendency of the trial despite directions from the court not to do so.
"Opposite Party should not have disconnected the telephone when the matter is sub judice and this question is to be decided whether the opposite party is indulging in unfair trade practices or not, as alleged by the complainant," the forum said, dismissing the company's denial that it had not received any directions restraining it to disconnect the phone.
