Bharti, which operates AirTel cellular telephone services, announced on Wednesday a 36 per cent reduction in tariffs for cell-to-cell STD calls.

Earlier the subscribers were paying Rs 5.39 per minute for a cell-to-cell STD call, which included Rs 2.99 as STD component and Rs 2.40 towards airtime charge.

Bharti has now reduced airtime component by about 80 per cent to just Rs 0.50 a minute against Rs 2.40 earlier. This facility would be available for outgoing STD calls to all cellular subscribers, a Bharti release said in New Delhi.

The company also announced waiver of airtime charges on all international calls (ISD). The new STD and ISD tariffs would be applicable on post-paid and pre-paid schemes with immediate effect.

The company has also done away with STD deposit for cell-to-cell STD call facility.
