Nifty rises in upbeat marketSelect shares gained in an upbeat sentiment with brisk trading on the National Stock Exchange on Thursday. The NSE-50 Index opened at 1150.45 points, touched the day's high of 1171.45 points, low of 1150.45 points before closing at 1168.35 points, showing a net gain of 17.90 points as against the previous close of 1150.45 points. The Midcap Index closed at 1289.45 points over the last trading day's close of 1269.85 points, gaining 19.60 points. The total turnover on the exchange stood at Rs 19.1 billion, involving 64.8 million shares. Trading was led by Reliance with a turnover of Rs 6.5 billion, followed by ITC Rs 4.2 billion, SBI-N (Rs 2.7 billion), Tata Tea (Rs 1.2 billion), TISCO (Rs 716 million), TELCO (Rs 523.3 million), ACC (Rs 383.6 million), Castrol (Rs 236.9 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 219.7 million), Hind Lever (Rs 213.9 million), ICICI (Rs 197.8 million), Rel Capital (Rs 186.2 million), L&T (Rs 170.6 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 110.4 million), MTNL (Rs 99.4 million), Colgate (Rs 85.6 million), Dr Reddy (Rs 80.8 million), BSES (Rs 73.6 million), Hero Honda (Rs 72.5 million), Rel Petro (Rs 72.4 million), BHEL (Rs 68.1 million), Escorts (Rs 53.8 million), LML (Rs 52.7 million), Satyam Comp (Rs 48.4 million), Ranbaxy (Rs 44.8 million) counters. The top gainers were Reliance Capital, HDFC Bank, Rel Petro, SBI-N, Essar Steel while the top losers were ICICI, Andhra Valley, Tata Chem, East Indian Hotels and Indian Hotels. UNI |
