Velankani Information Systems Inc, or VIS, a US-based leading provider of professional services and products to telecom and financial sectors, is setting up a software development campus in Bangalore to expand its operations and tap new markets in Asia and Europe.

The New Jersey-located $ 17.5-million company will initially invest Rs 500 million to establish the 350,000 sq ft campus, its first such development facility outside the US, by mid-2001.

Velankani chief executive officer Kiron Shah, while announcing the company's plans for India, said here on Tuesday that the Indian operations would focus on the implementation of projects to be executed in the US, and take up product development besides R&D.

"Since we had launched our India operations late last year, we has been working on various projects."

Promoted by three non-resident Indians -- Kolanda Reddy, Raj Singh, and S Shah -- the 15-year-old company with a 200-strong team provides software development services to AT&T, Lucent Technologies, MetaSolv Software, BEA, Tellabs, and other telecom companies in the US as well as Canada.
