Uptrend helps Nifty to gain 23 points to 966.60

Market opened on a positive note at the National Stock Exchange and continued its uptrend as prices of pivotals registered smartly on renewed buying support from foreign institutional investors coupled with short covering by local operators today.

Reflecting the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 950.25 points, touched the day's high of 966.60 points, low of 948.40 points, before closing at 966.60 points, showing a net gain of 23.10 points as against the previous close of 943.50 points.

The CNX Nifty Junior shot up by 59.65 points to 1772.70 points from the previous close of 1713.05 points. The S&P CNX Defty ended higher by 18.70 points to 782.35 points as against the previous close of 763.65 points.

The CNX-500 and Midcap-200 rose further by 19.00 and 18.07 points to 667.67 and 597.39 points as against the previous close of 648.67 and 579.32 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 17.92 billion came from a trading of 72.14 million shares in 251,501 trades. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 324.5 million.

Today, exchange witnessed 676 securities advances, 216 declines, 71 remaining unchanged. 81 securities hit their price bands today, a nse release stated.
