- Dilhara Fernando became the 27th Sri Lankan and the 267th player in LOIs to appear in 50 or more matches.
- Aravinda deSilva, who was appearing in his 30th World Cup match equalled the record held by former teammate Arjuna Ranatunga, for the maximum caps for a Sri Lankan in the World Cup.
- The unbeaten 50-run partnership between Russel Arnold and Chaminda Vaas was Sri Lanka's best for the 7th wicket against all teams in the World Cup. The pair obliterates the previous best of unbeaten 41 runs between Romesh Kaluwitharana and Vaas against Zimbawe at Worcester on 22-5-1999.
- When he claimed the wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Aravinda DeSilva became the sixth Sri Lankan bowler and the 63rd bowler in LOIs to capture 100 or more wickets.
- By reaching the above landmark in 303 matches, DeSilva needed maximum matches among all the 63 bowlers to take 100 wickets. Previously, India's Sachin Tendulkar needed 268 games to reach this milestone in 2001.
- DeSilva (9083 runs + 100 wkts) now becomes the 28th all-rounder in LOIs to score over 1000 runs and take 100 wickets and the only second after Tendulkar (11917 runs + 110 wickets in 308 matches) to do the rare 9000-plus runs and 100-plus wickets.
- The four wickets (for 22 runs) by Chaminda Vaas was the second best bowling performance by a Sri Lankan bowler against the West Indies after the 5-58 by Sanath Jayasuriya at Port of Spain on 6-6-1997. However Vaas's performance was the best by a Sri Lankan against the West Indies in a World Cup match, bettering the 4-57 by Chandika Hathurusingha at Berri (in Australia) on 13-3-1992.
- Vaas (28 not out and 4-22) became the first Sri Lankan to achieve an all-round performance in the World Cup by scoring over 25 runs and taking four wickets. Previously, Aravinda DeSilva had made 107 not out and captured 3-42 against Australia in the final of the 1996 World Cup at Lahore.
- Vaas became the only second all-rounder after Andre Adams (35 not out and 4-44 at Port Elizabeth on 13-2-2003) to score over 25 runs and capture 4 wickets in the same World Cup match against the West Indies.
- This was Sri Lanka's eighth win over the West Indies in the last 11 LOI matches since 14-1-1996.
- However, this was the West Indies' first loss to Sri Lanka in five World Cup matches.
