Craig White was appearing in his 50th match since his debut in December 1994. He becomes the 26th Englishman and the 266th player in LOIs to reach this landmark.
- This was Sachin Tendulkar's 26th match against England. He equals the tally of Anil Kumble for most appeareances by an Indian batsman against England.
- The 62-run partnership between Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh was India's best for the fifth wicket against England in the World Cup, surpassing the 47-run stand between Mohammad Azharuddin and Kapil Dev at Mumbai (Wankhede) on 5-11-1987.
- Dravid's scores in the only four innings he has played at this ground are: 33 (70 balls), 84 runs (94), 77 (102) and now this 62 (72) -- 256 runs (avg. 64.00, s/r 75.74). His run aggregate is now the most by a visiting batsman at this venue. He went past the 233 runs scored by Australian Adam Gilchrist in three matches.
- The bowling spell of 10-2-15-2 (R/o: 1.50) by Andrew Flintoff was the second most economical by an Englishman bowling his full quota of overs against India in LOIs. Off-spinner John Emburey had figures of 11-2-15-0 (R/o: 1.36) at the Oval on 24-5-1986.
- Flintoff's bowling analysis was also the second most economical by an English bowler in the World Cup outside England. Ian Botham had figures of 10-4-12-2 (R/o: 1.20) against Pakistan at Adelaide on 1-3-1992.
- At the other end of the scale, Andy Caddick's 10-0-69-3 (R/o: 6.90) recorded the third least economical bowling spells by an English bowler bowling his full quota of overs in a World Cup match. Former medium pace bowler Derek Pringle had figures of 10-0-83-0 (R/o: 8.30) against the West Indies at Gujranwala 9-10-1987 and left-arm spinner Richard Illingworth had figures of 10-0-72-1 (R/o 7.20) against Sri Lanka at Faisalabad on 9-3-1996.
- The 69-runs conceded by Caddick was the maximum he has in his career spanning 53 matches. He had figures of 1-66 (in 10 overs) against the West Indies at Port of Spain on 6-3-1994.
- However, despite conceding the most runs in a match in his career, Caddick managed to record his best bowling figures against India. His previous best was the 2-61 he claimed at Mumbai on 3-2-2002. Caddick also bettered his previous best bowling performance in the World Cup. He had 1 for 27 against Pakistan at Cape Town on 22-2-2003.
- Javagal Srinath has now been dismissed for a duck off the first ball on 11 occasions. He is ahead of Pakistanis Wasim Akram and Moin Khan who have been dismissed in this manner on nine occasions.
- With India losing four wickets (including a run-out) in the 50th over of its innings, bowled by Caddick, this was the third occasion in the 2003 World Cup when four wickets fell in the same over. Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas had the first four Bangladeshi wickets at Pietermaritzburg on 14-2-2003, while Canada lost its last four wickets (including to two run-outs) to Vasbert Drakes in the 43rd over against West Indies at Centurion on 23-2-2003.
- The catch of Vaughan off the bowling of Nehra, was Rahul Dravid's 50th dismissal as a keeper in 42 matches. He now has 51 dismissals (42 catches and 9 stumpings) as a keeper. Only two other Indian keepers have 50-plus dismissals in LOIs - Nayan Mongia 154 dismissals (in 139 matches) and Kiran More 90 dismissals (in 94 matches).
- The figures of 6-23 by Ashish Nehra was by far his best performance of his career in 33 matches. His previous best was the 3-30 against New Zealand at the SSC at Colombo on 2-8-2001.
- This was the 30th six-plus wicket haul in a LOI match as Nehra becomes the only second Indian bowler to take six wickets after Anil Kumble's 6-12 against West Indies at Calcutta on 27-11-1993.
- It is the joint 14th best bowling figures in LOI history. However, it is the fourth best by a left-arm bowler after Sri Lankan Chaminda Vaas (8-19), Australian Gary Gilmour (6-14 - in the World Cup) & Zimbabwean Bryan Strang (6-20).
- However Nehra's figures were the best by an Indian bowler in the World Cup. Venkatesh Prasad had figures of 5-27 against Pakistan at Manchester on 8-6-1999.
- Nehra's figures were the second best by any bowler on South African soil after the 6-19 by Zimbabwean Henry Olonga also against England at Cape Town on 28-1-2000. For the record, the previous best figures at this ground was the 5-25 by Pakistani Waqar Younis against the home side on 9-2-1993.
- Nehra figures are also the best by an Indian bowler at this venue. Kapil Dev had figures of 3-23 against the home team on 17-12-1992.
- It was the best figures by an Indian bowler against England bettering Javagal Srinath's 5-41 at Bangalore on 26-2-1993.
- The partnership of 55 runs between Flintoff and Caddick was England's all time best against any country in LOIs. The pair obliterates the previous best of 47 runs between Allan Lamb and Neil Foster against West Indies at Manchester on 31-5-1984.
- The above partnership was also the best by any team against India for the 9th wicket obliterating the previous highest of 53 between Zimbabweans Paul Strang and Andy Whittall at Bulawayo on 26-9-1998.
- The above stand was obviously the best for England for the 9th wicket against India, superceding the previous best of 31 runs between Graham Thorpe and Darren Gough at Sharjah on 11-4-1999.
- Virender Sehwag became the first fielder in World Cup history to take three catches in a match on two separate occasions. He also taken three catches against Holland at Paarl on 12-2-2003. Incidentally, now 15 fielders have taken three catches in a World Cup match, which is a record for most catches in a match by a fielder in the World Cup.
- This was India's first win at this ground in five matches. Previously, India had lost three and one match was declared as no-result -- all against the home team, South Africa.
- This was Nehra' s maiden man of the match award of his career in 33 matches.
