This was Canada's fourth limited-overs international and World Cup match. It was the team's first since the 1979 World Cup.

- The partnership of 22 runs between Ian Billcliff & Joe Harris was Canada's best for the 4th wicket, bettering the previous best of 7 runs put on by Martin Stead & Cec Marshall against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
- The partnership of 26 runs between Ian Billcliff & Abdul Sattaur was Canada's best for the 6th wicket, bettering the previous best of 19 runs put on twice -- by Cec Marshall & Bryan Mauricette against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979, and by Mauricette & John Vaughan against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979.
- The partnership of 12 runs between Ashish Bagai & Sanjay Thuraisingam was Canada's best for the 8th wicket, bettering the previous best of 4 runs put on by Mauricette & Jitu Patel against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
- The partnership of 13 runs between Thuraisingam & Austin Codrington was Canada's best for the 9th wicket, bettering the previous best of 6 runs put on by Jitu Patel & CC "Neil" Henry against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979.
- The partnership of 21 runs between Codrington & Davis Joseph was Canada's best for the 10th wicket, bettering the previous best of 3 runs put on by Jitu Patel & John Valentine against England at Manchester on 14-6-1979.
- The above partnership was the best by any team against Bangladesh for the 10th wicket in LOIs. The Codrington-Joseph partnership bettered the previous best stand of 13 runs between Sri Lankans Muttiah Muralitharan and Champika Gamage at Sharjah on 6-4-1995.
- Ian Billcliff's 42 just failed to surpass Glen Sealy's 45 against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979, which still remains the highest score by a Canadian batsman.
- Canada's total of 180 runs (49.1 overs) was its highest in LOIs. Its previous highest was the 139-9 it made in 60 overs against Pakistan at Leeds on 9-6-1979.
- The partnership of 30 runs between Ehsanul Haque & Sanwar Hossain was Bangladesh's highest for the 4th wkt wicket in the WC eclipsing the previous best of 28 runs between Akram Khan and Naimur Rahman against Pakistan on 31-5-1999.
- Austin Codrington's 5-27 was the best bowling figures by a Canadian bowler in LOIs. The previous best was the 2-27 by CC "Neil" Henry against Australia at Birmingham on 16-6-1979. This was also the best bowling performance against Bangladesh in a WC match. The previous best was the 5-35 by Pakistani Saqlain Mushtaq at Northampton on 31-5-1999.
- Codrington's figures are the best by a bowler from a non-Test playing nation. Only two other bowlers have five wicket hauls in LOIs -- 5-29 by Shaukat Dukanwala for UAE against Holland at Lahore on 1-3-1996 and 5-33 by Aasif Karim for Kenya against Bangladesh at Nairobi (Gym) on 10-10-1997.
- Codrington, meanwhile, becomes the only second bowler to take a five-wicket haul at this ground after Pakistan's Waqar Younis' 5-25 against the home side on 9-2-1993.
- This was Bangladesh's 26th loss in 27 matches (with one no result match). Its last win came against Pakistan at Northampton in the previous WC on 31-5-1999. This was Canada's first win in four matches. The team had lost all its three matches in the 1979 WC.
