Leela Chitnis, superstar of the 1930s, passed away at a Connecticut nursing home in the United States on Sunday night.
She was 91 and is survived by four sons.
Chitnis, who played the heroine opposite Ashok Kumar in many films, suffered a hip fracture last month and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
