'You ripper'! Aussies hail Wimbledon champ Barty

Ashleigh Barty's close friend Casey Dellacqua led the way in typically Australian style as a proud sporting nation woke up to hail its first women's Wimbledon singles champion in 41 years on Sunday.

 

Dellacqua added in a Channel Nine TV interview: "It's just extraordinary ... She does it with such grace and with such integrity, she sets a really good example for sport in Australia about how to be a champion."

Barty's triumph came on the 50th anniversary of Goolagong's first Wimbledon title and both are Aboriginals. Joining in to wish the new Wimbledon champ were tennis great Rod Laver, English women's cricketer Isa Guha, 2000 Olympics champion Cathy Freeman, another Aboriginal athlete, along with Aboriginal cricketer Mel Jones …
