The Indian challenge at the WTA Indian Open ended with the crushing defeat of Rutuja Bhosale at the hands of seventh seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, at the Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune, on Wednesday.

The Indian wild card lost the second round match in the US $125,000 event 3-6, 0-6.

The 16-year-old, playing her maiden WTA event, was no match for her opponent's powerful groundstrokes and deceptive drops.

Svitolina broke Rutuja's serve in the sixth game and then eased through the set before raising the bar in the second set.
