Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Sushil Kumar on Monday got engaged to Savi, daughter of his coach Satpal Singh, at a private ceremony in New Delhi attended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The ring ceremony was also attended by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh, former Defence Minister George Fernandes, Samajwadi Party MP Brij Bhushan Singh, cricketer Kapil Dev, Delhi Commonwealth Games gold medallist wrestlers Narsingh Yadav and Ravinder Kumar among others.
"The marriage will take place on February 18. On February 17, all the other rituals including Mehendi and ladies sangeet will be performed. Everyone in both the families are excited about the match," said S Kumar, Sushil's close friend.
The ring ceremony took place at Hotel Shangri La in New Delhi.
Savi, an MBA graduate, was draped in a green embroidered saree while world champion Sushil was wearing a brown suit.
