Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal's impressive form helped Indian men register their second successive victory, while their women counterparts continued their dismal performance in the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Moscow on Monday.
In their second match, Indian men beat Canada 3-0, while the eves went down 1-3 to Malaysia.
World number 70, Kamal hardly broke sweat to get the better of Pierre-Luc Hinse 3-1, after Soumyadeep Roy overcame Pradeeban Peter-Paul 3-2 in a keenly-contested encounter.
Former national champion Subhajit Saha then defeated Pierre-Luc Theriault 3-0 in a lop-sided affair to round off the score in the Group H match.
Meanwhile, reigning woman national champion Poulomi Ghatak spanked Soo Jiin Chiu 3-0, but did not find any support from the teammates, including her doubles partner Mouma Das.
Mouma lost to Sock Khim 0-3 in the first match and then again suffered a 2-3 defeat at the hand of Lee Wei Beh. Former India number one Kumaresan Shamini also went down 1-3 to Lee Wei in second match of the Group E contest.
On the opening day of the prestigious event, Indian men had beaten Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-2 and the women team had lost to Denmark 2-3.
On Tuesday Indian men and women will play Argentina and Turkey respectively.
