Wimbledon: Sania-Hingis advance to second round

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon Championships, defeating the duo of Saisai Zheng and Zarina Diyas in the opening round on Wednesday night.

The top seeded Indo-Swiss pair defeated the Chinese-Kazakh team 6-2, 6-2.

Sania-Martina will next take on the pair of Kimiko Date-Krumm and Francesca Schiavone.

The Indo-Swiss combination converted four of the eight break-point opportunities that came their way, while their opponents failed to make the best of six chances they got.

In the men's doubles, Leander Paes and his Canadian partner Dainel Nestor also advanced to the second round, beating the Serbian pair of Victor Troicki and Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 after an hour and 42 minutes.

However, Purav Raja and his French partner Fabrice Martin failed to make it to the next round.

They went down fighting 1-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (7-9) to the 2012 Wimbledon champions, Jonathan Marray and Frederik Nielson.
