Federer drops to No 5 for first time in decade

Roger Federer does not figure among the top four in the men's tennis world rankings for the first time in ten years.

The Swiss champion and holder of a record 17 Grand Slam titles slipped to No 5 in the latest rankings following a shock second round defeat by little-known Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky at Wimbledon.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion first went atop the rankings in 2004 and remained there for four years, during which he won 12 Grand Slam titles. 

Rafael Nadal, who also suffered a first round exit at Wimbledon this year, moved above him to fourth, with fellow-Spaniard David Ferrer up a place to third. 

There is no change in the top two positions, as Novak Djokovic, despite being beaten by Andy Murray in Sunday’s final at Wimbledon, held on to No 1, with the Scot at No 2.

Semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz, who Murray overcame to reach the final, rose to a career-high 17. 

In the WTA rankings, Serena Williams retained her place atop the rankings, with Maria Sharapova staying put at No 2. 

Wimbledon women's singles champion Marion Bartoli rose from No 15 to 7, while beaten finalist Sabine Lisicki moved up six places to 18. 

British 19-year-old No 1 Laura Robson, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time this year, climbed 11 places to a career-high 27.
