India’s star badminton players Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth, along with several other Indian players, are in Switzerland to participate in the Swiss open 2019.

They also visited Mount Titlis to promote the upcoming BWF World Championships to be held in Switzerland in June for the second time after a gap of 20 years.

They played an exhibition match at 10,000 feet. For this showcase match, an outdoor badminton court was constructed. The match was organised by the Swiss badminton association and the Mount Titlis Cable Car Company based in Engelberg.

Kashyap and Sai Praneeth kick started the Swiss Open 2019 with a doubles badminton exhibition match alongside Switzerland’s athlete Sabrina Jacques and Swiss para-athlete Karin Suter-Erath.

Saina Nehwal was among the players to participate at the event but had to drop out at the last moment due to health reasons. Her husband Kashyap filled in for her.

"I am excited and thrilled to be playing badminton on Mt. Titlis, that too 10,000 ft above sea level. It was a unique experience and a lot of fun to be able to play badminton in one of the most spectacular Bollywood venues. The view is breathtaking, and I am missing Saina. She would have loved being here," said Kashyap who got married to fellow shuttler Saina Nehwal last December.

Asked about the match at Mount Titlis, Praneeth remarked: "It's entirely an amazing experience. I never thought of playing a match at such a height. And Mount Titlis is amazing, completely out of world thing for me. I really enjoyed being here and I really want to thank the Swiss badminton association for bringing us at such a wonderful place. I really wish the upcoming World Championship a grand success and wish to win a medal there in Basel."

Diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, Saina advised hospitalisation

Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has been advised hospitalisation after being diagnosed with 'acute gastroenteritis' which forced her to pull out of the ongoing Swiss Open Badminton Championship in Basel, Switzerland.

Saina, who reached the quarter-finals of the All England Championship, said that she played with 'acute stomach pain'.

On Wednesday, she posted on her official Instagram page that she will be taking a break on doctor's advice to get admitted to hospital for further treatment.

"So some sad news .. was really going through acute stomach pain from last Monday.. managed to play few matches in All England with lot of pain ... and decided to skip swiss open and come back to India and find out the issue," Saina wrote on her Instagram page.

"...I found out it's Acute Gastroenteritis with mild pancreatitis and the doctors have recommended me to get admitted and hopefully I recover soon out of it ...," she added.
