India's Sania Mirza and her partner Coco Vandeweghe of United States were knocked out in the first round of the US Open women's doubles, in New York, on Friday.
Sania and Vandeweghe were beaten by 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 by 12th seeds Romania's Raluca Olaru and Ukraine's Nadia Kichenok in their opening match.
After crusing through the first set, Sania and Vandeweghe lost the momentum in the second set as they both lost their serve each to go down 4-6.
In the decider, Vandeweghe was broken in the fifth game as Olaru and Kichenok completed a superb come from behind victory.
Sania will next be seen in action in the mixed doubles where she teams up with American Rajeev Ram in their first round match against Germany's Kevin Kraweitz and Kveta Peschke of Czech Republic.
