Tokyo Olympics: How India's athletes fared on Sunday, July 25

The shooters flopped and the men's hockey team took a hammering from Australia even as badminton ace Pusarla V Sindhu, boxing great M C Mary Kom and table tennis star Manika Batra advanced to keep India's Olympic campaign on track despite a medal-less day at the Olympics on Sunday.

Here's a look at India's athletes' showing at the Games on Sunday.

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

Pranati Nayak failed to qualify for the All-Round finals. She registered a total score of 42.565 over the four categories -- floor exercise, vault, uneven bars and balance beam in action in women's qualification - Subdivision 1.

BADMINTON

P V Sindhu beat Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 in her opening women's singles Group J match.

BOXING

M C Mary Kom beat Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of the Dominican Republic 4-1 in the women's 51kg Round of 32 bout.

Manish Kaushik lost to Britain’s Luke McCormack 1-4 in the men's 63kg Round of 32 bout.

HOCKEY

India lost to Australia 1-7 in a men's Pool A match.

ROWING

Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh produced the best-ever Olympic performance by Indian rowers to enter the men's lightweight double sculls semi-finals.

The Indian duo clocked 6:51.36s to finish third in the Repechage round.

SAILING

Nethra Kumanan was placed 27th after two races in the women's Laser Radial Race 1, while Vishnu Saravanan was at 14th place after his first race in the men's Laser Race 1.

SHOOTING

Manu Bhaker finished a creditable 12th despite losing nearly 20 minutes during the qualification round after her pistol malfunctioned. She had a score of 575, while the cut-off was 577, in the women's 10 air pistol event.

Yashaswini Deswal bowed out of the women's 10m Air Pistol event with scores of 94, 98, 94, 97, 96 and 95.

Angad Vir Singh Bajwa missed two targets out of 75 and was placed 11th on count back at the end of the third round in men's Skeet qualification. He is in the race for a top-six finals spot.

He had scores of 25, 24, 24 in the first three series and will return on Monday to shoot the final two series.

Compatriot Mairaj Ahmad Khan shot 71 and was placed 25th out of the 30 shooters in fray.

In the men's 10 metres Air Rifle event, Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar finished a lowly 26th and 32nd respectively. Deepak aggregated 624.7 while Divyansh shot 622.8 over the six series.

SWIMMING

Srihari Nataraj and Maana Patel failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the men’s and women’s 100 metres backstroke.

Nataraj clocked 54.31 seconds to finish his men’s heat in sixth place.

Patel clocked 1.05.20s to finish third in a three-swimmer field in the women’s heat.

TABILE TENNIS

Gnanasekaran Sathiyan lost to Hong Kong’s Siu Hang Lam 11-7, 7-11, 4-11, 5-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6 in a men's singles Round 2 match.

Manika Batra beat Ukraine’s Margaryta Pesotska 4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7 in the women's singles Round 2 match.

TENNIS

Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost to Ukraine's Liudmyla Kichenok-Nadiia Kichenok 0-6, 7-6(0,) 10-8 in a women's doubles Round 1 match.

TOKYO OLYMPICS
