India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu was conferred with the Padma Shri award by President Pranab Mukherjee at a glittering ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“I am so happy to receive the Padma Shri award from the Honourable President of India. This will motivate me to achieve even more laurels for India,” said Sindhu after the ceremony.
Sindhu was winner of the bronze at the Copenhagen World Championships last year. With her bronze in Copenhagen, Sindhu became the first and only Indian ever to win two World medals, back-to-back at that.
Indian men's hockey team captain Sardar Singh was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award. Sardar received the Arjuna Award in 2012.
