Suranjoy Singh, the gold medal winner of the prestigiuos President's Cup, had to toil hard to beat unheralded Mahimainathan 1-0 in his opening bout of the fourth Super Cup Inter-Zonal National Boxing Championship in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Suranjoy, the Services and India boxer, earned the lead in the first round against the South Zone Green rival, and just about managed to hold the narrow lead to win the flyweight (51 kg) bout at the Andheri Sports Complex.
In another notable result, Sunil Kumar of North Zone Green knocked out Rajinder Singh of West Zone Yellow in the first round of their flyweight contest.
In another flyweight preliminary round encounter, Srikant Yadav of Central Zone knwocked out his opponent Mintu Thapa of North East Zone in the second round. The referee stopped the contest when Yadav was leading 3-1.
