India's top player Joshna Chinappa went down fighting against second seed Camille Serme of France in the quarterfinal of the Women's world squash championship at El Gouna, Egypt.

Chinappa lost 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8, 3-11 to Camille in a 70-minute marathon tussle on Wednesday.

Fortunes changed hands but a fighting Joshna kept herself in contention before narrowly going down to her experienced rival.

Camille hit several winners to unsettle Joshna early but the Indian fought back each time and withstood the aggression to take the match to the decider.

"Never have I seen Joshna playing at such high level,” said the French player after the win.
