Somdev Devvarman advanced to the second round in the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships after scoring a straight-set win over America's Kevin Kim in Newport.
The unseeded Indian took 63 minutes to complete a 6-4, 6-3 win in the first round of the US $442,500 grass court event.
Somdev broke Kim once each in the two sets and saved all three break-points he faced in the second set.
He will next take on another American, fifth seed Mardy Fish, who humbled compatriot Mark Russell 6-1, 6-2 in his opening round match.
Somdev had fallen to Fish in the first round at Queen's Club last month and will be looking to avenge the defeat.
