Sodhi creates history defending his World title

Ace Double Trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi on Tuesday created history today by becoming the first Indian ever to defend a World Cup title.

According to information reaching here, Ronjan successfully defended his title at Al Ain in UAE defeating China's HU Binyuan in a nailbiting tie-breaker.

Ronjan along with Binyuan shot a total of 187/200 in the finals. He finally clinched gold in the tie shoot.

The Indian marksman earlier in the qualifiers was placed second to Binyuan, but he improved upon his performance in the finals to get better of Binyuan.

Ronjan is the only Indian shooter to have qualified for the prestigious Shotgun World Cup Final events.

"It is a great feeling to win the gold at the prestigious World Cup finals. The competition was tough. I hope to continue with this performance and hopefully will be better with time," an elated Ronjan said after winning the yellow metal.

The Punjab shooter has been shooting at an excellent average of 142.6/150 in his last 26 international competitions and has recently joined the Punjab Police as a DSP. He is being promoted by the Mittal Champions Trust.
