Zoravar Singh Sandhu narrowly missed an Olympic quota berth but had the consolation of winning his maiden ISSF World Cup medal, a bronze, at the shotgun shooting championships in Changwon, Korea, on Tuesday.
Sandhu shot a score of 141 (121+20), with a qualification series of 25, 25, 24, 22 and 25, and was tied for the silver with two other marksmen, Alberto Fernandez and Jesus Serrano, both from Spain.
In the tie-breaker that followed, Fernandez and Sandhu clinched the second and third spots on the podium respectively with scores of two and one.
The gold was won by Erik Varga Slovakia with a score of 142 (121+21).
Among the other Indians in the event, Mansher Singh finished 47th (109) and Birendeep Sodhi 52nd (108).
Anwer Sultan, who played in the MQS section, shot a score of 112.
