Top seed Achanta Sharath Kamal advanced to the second round of men's singles in the NCC Indian Open ITTF Pro Tour tournament after an easy win over Ji Min Han of Korea in Delhi on Friday.
The Indian ace defeated Ji Min 11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 11-4 at the Yamuna Sports Complex.
He now meets Chih Chi Wu of Chinese Taipei in the second round. Wu defeated Abishek Ravichandran of India 11-3, 8-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.
In the men's doubles, Sharath and Subhajit Saha beat the pair of Xiaoli Cai and Zhongze Liu of Singapore 3-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-2, 11-5, 7-11, 12-10 to advance to the second round.
In a major upset, the Indian duo of Harmeet Desai and Devesh Karia defeated the second seeded pair of Patrick Baum and Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9.
In the women's singles, Mouma Das lost to Dal Rae Jin of Korea 5-11, 7-11, 16-14, 3-11 6-11 in the opening round.
The five-day tournament is being conducted as a test run for the Commonwealth Games event in October. Over 100 players from 13 nations are participating.
