Sania rises to No 3 in doubles rankings

Paes drops four places to 25

Sania Mirza rose to a career-best doubles ranking of No 3 following her stupendous title win at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, partnering Switzerland's Martina Hingis.

The Indian ace, with 6885 points to her name, is placed behind Italians Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani, who share the top spot with 7640 points each.

"Officially number 3 in the world today :). Thank you all for Ur love and support always. love you guys back.." she announced her joy on Twitter.

Following her doubles triumph at Indian Wells, Sania earned 1000 points and gained two places on the WTA chart.

She had reached the final of the same tournament last year partnering Cara Black.

"It's thrilling to achieve my career-best rank. Being the number one is a dream and I hope I can get there some day," Sania told PTI from the United States.

In the ATP doubles, Leander Paes dropped to 25, a loss of four places.

Lurking just behind him is Rohan Bopanna, who lost one spot on the ladder.

In the WTA singles chart, Ankita Raina continues to be the top-ranked Indian women’s player at 253, up two spots.

In the ATP rankings, Somdev Devvarman stayed at No 176 while Ramkumar Ramanathan gained 10 places and is placed at No 247.

Yuki Bhambri is at 257 after jumping 27 rungs.
