Salgaocar Juniors defeated Mumbai FC in a keenly-contested final to emerge 'India Champions' in the Indian leg of the NIKE-Manchester United Premier Cup.
In a close match, at the Bharti Vidyapeeth grounds in Pune on Tuesday, goalkeeper Aldrich Fernandes saved three scoring attempts by Mumbai FC Juniors (U-15) before the Goa-based club won the summit clash 5-4 via the tie-breaker.
Mumbai FC, who resorted to rough tactics to keep the Salgaocar boys at bay for the major part of the game, drew first blood in 17th minute through N Roger.
The Goans, however, rode on Myron Borges's last minute strike to make a comeback into the match before emerging triumphant in the tie-breaker.
Earlier, Salgaocar Juniors (U-15) defeated Guwahati Town Club 3-0 via the tie-breaker in the semi-finals.
Twenty teams from across the country participated in the tournament.
The victory enabled Salgaocar Juniors book a berth in the Asian championship, to be held in Bangkok.
This is the second time in three years that Salgaocar have won the junior tournament.
