World number one Dinara Safina beat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday to advance to the quarter-finals of the Den Bosch Open.
"I think I'm playing pretty good," said the Russian who is still chasing her first title at Den Bosch after twice losing in the final.
"I was managing to return well and playing some aggressive tennis so I'm pretty happy."
Safina next faces sixth-seeded Slovak Daniela Hantuchova who defeated Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
In the men's event, holder David Ferrer beat fellow Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 6-4, 6-3.
Third seed Ferrer, who has not lost a set in the tournament, next meets countryman Ivan Navarro who ousted Frenchman Marc Gicquel 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
"Hernandez kept me running but running is part of my game. I like to move from the baseline, that's where I find my touch," said Ferrer.
Ferrer is the highest seed left in the men's draw after the top two, Fernando Verdasco and Tommy Robredo, lost on Tuesday.
