The Delhi high court has asked Suresh Kalmadi, who has refused to resign from the presidentship of Indian Olympic Association, why he should not be suspended from the post along with Lalit Bhanot and V K Verma for their alleged acts of corruption during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The court issued show cause notices to scam-tainted Kalmadi and his close aides Bhanot and Verma on Wednesday.

In the notice, the court asked why Kalmadi should not be suspended as IOA chief. The three have been told to reply to the notice on or before April 25.

So far the IOA has maintained that he cannot be removed.

"I have already told the IOA management that I am no longer interested in continuing as president of IOA," Kalmadi told rediff.com, as he stepped out of the Parliament complex.

Kalmadi, who spent nine months in jail following the Commonwealth Games corruption scandal, was released on bail last month.

The International Olympic Committee has written a number times to the IOA to remove Kalmadi but the latter has shied away from taking action against him.

"IOA had a budget of Rs 1,000 crore and I spent nine months in jail but there is someone in the Delhi government who spent Rs 70,000 crore. That person should also be held responsible for misuse of money meant for Commonwealth Games," Kalmadi said, pointing a finger at Delhi Chief Minister Mrs Sheela Dikshit.
