An own goal from Walid Abbas in the third minute of stoppage time gifted holders Iraq a precious 1-0 win over United Arab Emirates on Saturday to kick-start their Asian Cup title defence.
The game looked to be heading for a draw when Iraq captain Younus Mahmood's cross deflected in off Abbas past Majed Naser who was helpless in goal.
Each team struck the woodwork twice in an entertaining, attacking match before Abbas's unfortunate touch won it for Iraq.
Iraq are second in Group D with three points from two matches, three behind Iran, who earlier beat North Korea 1-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
