The most decorated Olympic champion Michael Phelps threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Arizona Diamondbacks’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday.

Phelps has 28 total Olympic medals, the most by any individual in the history of the Olympic games, showed on Thursday he could also throw a useful baseball pitch.

The Swim Night event was part of Arizona Drowning Impact Awareness Month.

Phelps, originally from Maryland, trained under Bob Bowman, who is the swim coach at Arizona State University.

The baseball league in America has a historic ritual in which a guest of honour is invited to throw a ceremonial first pitch to mark the start of the game.
