Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek, seeded fourth, got the better of the Polish pair of Jerzy Janowicz and Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 6-4 in a second round match of the US $3,079,555 hardcourt event.
In another second round fixture, eighth seeds Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France got the better of Italy's Andreas Seppi and Russia's Mikhail Youzhny 7-5, 6-3.
