Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi suffered shock first round defeats along with their respective partners and bowed out of the Indian Wells ATP Masters series.
Third seeds Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy went down 4-6, 6-3, 6-10 to the Spanish wild card pair of Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez on Sunday night.
Bhupathi and his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi, seeded fourth, lost their first round match 4-6, 4-6 to Igor Andreev of Russia and Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan.
Both the pairs did not get any ranking points but spilt US $6,980 each for competing in the US $3,645,000 hard court event.
