Bindra finishes seventh

Abhinav Bindra disappointed in the final of the 10m Air Rifle event to finish in seventh place at the Markopoulo Olympic Shooting Centre on Saturday.

Zhu Q of China, who qualified for the final with an Olympic record of 599 out of 600 in the qualifying round, claimed the gold for China with a score of 702.7 (103.7 in the final), which broke the world record. Li J took silver to make it a one-two for China with a tally of 701.3 (103.3).

Jozef Gonci of Slovakia took the bronze with a final score of 697.4. He won the silver in the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Bindra, who raised hopes by qualifying for the final in third place with a score of 597, shot only 97.6 in the final round to finish with 694.6.
